Job Description
Mechanical Design Engineer
MEP Consulting Engineers · (4 days WFH) · Full-Time · 2–4 Years' Experience Ideally
The Opportunity
We're recruiting on behalf of an award-winning MEP consulting engineering practice with over 30 years' experience delivering intelligent, sustainable building services across the UK. They work on both new-build and refurbishment projects for a diverse range of clients — from national hotel and hospitality groups to schools, care homes, and commercial developers.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a genuinely small, specialist team where you'll have real responsibility, close mentorship from experienced engineers, and direct involvement in projects from brief through to completion.
Why This Role Stands Out
Our client is a tight-knit practice — not a large corporate firm. That means less hierarchy, more varied work, and the kind of career development you simply can't get in a bigger organisation. If you want your voice heard and your work to actually matter, this is the environment for you.
The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll be a core part of the team — taking ownership of mechanical building services design across a varied and rewarding project portfolio. The role is remote-first, with 4 days per week working from home and one day in the office or on site.

The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll be a core part of the team — taking ownership of mechanical building services design across a varied and rewarding project portfolio. The role is remote-first, with 4 days per week working from home and one day in the office or on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce mechanical design packages including HVAC, heating, ventilation, plumbing, and drainage systems
- Develop and review mechanical drawings and specifications in Revit MEP or AutoCAD
- Carry out heat loss/gain calculations, system sizing, and energy performance assessments
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and tender documentation
- Liaise with architects, structural engineers, and contractors throughout design and delivery
- Attend site visits and client meetings (typically the one in-office/on-site day per week)
- Contribute to the practice's commitment to low-carbon, sustainable building design
What We're Looking For
- 2–4 years' experience in mechanical building services within a UK consultancy
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (BEng/MEng)
- Working towards or eligible for IEng or CEng is desirable but not essential
- Competent in AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP; IES, Hevacomp, or similar is advantageous
- Sound knowledge of UK building regulations, CIBSE guides, and relevant standards
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage your own workload remotely
- A true team player — someone who thrives in a small, collaborative environment
What's On Offer
- 4 days per week working from home
- Varied project exposure across hospitality, commercial, education, and care sectors
- Direct mentorship from senior engineers in a close-knit team
- Support for professional development and chartership (IEng/CEng)
- Competitive salary depending on experience
