Pertemps Recruitment are looking for a dedicated School Transport Assistant to support children with additional support needs in Edinburgh.
In this rewarding role, you’ll ensure children have a safe, supportive, and comfortable journey to and from school each day.
Location: Edinburgh East – You would be required to start at the depot
Rate of Pay: £13.79 per hour
Hours of work: The role is part time, minimum 20 hours per week on split shifts. You will work 2 hours in the morning usually 8am to 10am and 2pm to 4pm however some flexibility is required depending on the route you are placed.
Duration: Temporary Ongoing

Key Responsibilities:
- Supportive Supervision: Assist and supervise children during their journey, creating a safe, calm, and positive travel experience.
- Clear Communication: Coordinate with the driver, school staff, and parents to keep communication smooth and ensure each child’s needs are met.
- Mobility and Equipment Assistance: Help children safely in and out of the vehicle, including those who use mobility aids or specialised equipment.
- Personalised Care: Provide additional support based on each child’s individual needs, such as helping with seat belts, offering reassurance, and managing any special requirements with sensitivity.
- Empathy and Patience: A genuine passion for helping children with additional support needs.
- Experience: Previous experience in a similar role or working with children with disabilities is preferred but not essential.
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate calmly and effectively with children, families, and team members.
- Reliability: Punctuality and consistency are essential for building trust with children and families.
