Job Description
Pertemps are working with our public sector client to recruit an experienced Anatomical Pathology Technologist to join their Forensic Mortuary team in Edinburgh.
Role: Anatomical Pathology Technologist (APT) – Forensic Mortuary
Location: Edinburgh City Centre
Hours: 36 hours per week, Monday – Friday (typically between 7:00am – 4:00pm) plus participation in an on-call rota
Pay Rate: Dependent on level of experience
Contract: Temporary ongoing
Start Date: Immediate

This is a unique and highly specialist opportunity to work within a professional forensic mortuary environment, supporting post-mortem examinations and contributing to vital forensic and medico-legal services.

Key Responsibilities
- Receiving, admitting and preparing deceased individuals with dignity and respect
- Cleaning and preparing bodies for post-mortem examination
- Assisting Pathologists during autopsies and ensuring all instruments and equipment are prepared and maintained
- Managing, labelling and storing samples in accordance with strict evidential and procedural guidelines
- Carrying out daily equipment and facility checks
- Accurately recording case information and maintaining detailed documentation
- Liaising professionally with internal teams, funeral directors and external agencies
- Preparing individuals for release and collection in line with protocol
- Maintaining high standards of health & safety, infection control and compliance
What We’re Looking For
- A recognised APT Diploma (essential)
- Proven experience working within a mortuary or forensic setting
- Strong understanding of post-mortem procedures and evidential handling
- Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping accuracy
- Professional, respectful and compassionate approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work calmly and professionally in a sensitive environment
