Job Description
Graduate Maths Academic Coach
Do you want a full academic year in a ‘Good’ secondary school where you run focused maths support sessions and see pupils improve across KS3 and KS4?
*** Graduate Maths Academic Coach
*** September 2026 start, to July 2027
*** £90 - £111 per day, term time only
*** ‘Good’ secondary school, Ward of Edgbaston
*** Provide support on a 1:1 and small group basis in Maths at KS3 and KS4
The Role:
You will work with the maths team to raise attainment through targeted 1:1 and small group support, plus in-class help when needed. Your sessions will prioritise the topics that block progress most often: number fluency, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio, algebra foundations, geometry, and problem solving. You will tighten KS3 fundamentals so pupils access lessons with fewer barriers, then move into KS4 exam habits where pupils select a method quickly, show working clearly, and check answers with confidence. The national curriculum expectations across KS3 and KS4 emphasise fluency, reasoning, and problem solving, so your support will reflect those priorities and build consistent routines pupils reuse across topics.
You will keep sessions structured: recap, model, guided practice, independent attempt, then a short check to spot misconceptions early. You will record brief outcomes after each session and share them with the teacher, so targets stay sharp and groups change when pupils secure the skill. Your aim is steady progress, fewer repeated errors, and stronger confidence under timed practice.
The Candidate:
You bring calm authority and clear explanations. You keep pupils focused, break concepts into small steps, and stick to routines so pupils feel safe to try, improve, and keep going.
The School:
You will work in Birmingham’s Ward of Edgbaston, a south-west Birmingham area with a mix of residential communities and major education sites. This is a ‘Good’ secondary school with clear systems and consistent classroom expectations, so support work stays purposeful and pupils know what to do. Maths support is planned around real gaps, with intervention linked to class teaching, so you are not guessing what to deliver each week. The ‘Good’ judgement refers to the school’s published inspection outcome, with newer inspection reporting moving away from single headline words.
Apply Now:
Send your CV to be considered. If shortlisted, you will get a call to confirm your availability for September 2026, your experience with young people, and your confidence supporting KS3 and KS4 maths. Checks follow, then the school stage is arranged in good time for the start date.
Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
