Job Description

KS1 Graduate Teaching Assistant

Do you want a full academic year in KS1 where you support pupils 1:1, in small groups, and in class, and see confidence grow through consistent routines?

*** KS1 Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 to July 2027
*** £85 - £95 per day
*** Good primary school, Wolverhampton
*** 1:1, small group and general classroom support across KS1

The Role:
You will work across Year 1 and Year 2, supporting pupils during whole-class teaching, independent tasks, and intervention time. Your day will mix in-class support with short, focused sessions for pupils who need extra practice to keep up. You will help pupils start tasks, stay on task, and finish work with increasing independence.

In class, you will reinforce instructions, model first steps, and scaffold learning using simple strategies, chunk tasks, use visual reminders, and run quick check-ins to keep pupils moving. You will support classroom routines, transitions, and behaviour expectations so learning stays calm and purposeful.

Out of class, you will deliver structured 1:1 and small group support linked to what pupils are learning that week. In reading, you will support phonics application, fluency, and comprehension through guided practice and targeted questions. In writing, you will help pupils build accurate sentences, apply spelling patterns, and use punctuation consistently. In maths, you will reinforce number bonds, place value, and calculation with small steps and high repetition. KS1 learning priorities align to the national curriculum expectations for English and maths.

You will keep brief notes on what pupils managed and what needs repeating, then share updates with the teacher so next steps stay clear.

The Candidate:
You bring patience, clarity, and steady routines. You stay calm, take feedback well, and keep boundaries professional.

  • Degree at 2:2 or above in any subject
    • Strong literacy and numeracy, confident supporting KS1 learning
    • Comfortable working 1:1 and leading small groups with clear routines
    • Experience with children through schools, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, camps, youth work, or volunteering is desirable
    • Professional approach to safeguarding, confidentiality, and behaviour expectations in line with statutory guidance
    • Enhanced DBS required, plus right to work checks, references, and standard school vetting

The School:
You will join a Good primary school in Wolverhampton where routines are consistent across KS1 and support staff are used with purpose. You will be given clear direction on focus pupils, session priorities, and resources, so you are not guessing what to do each day. Expect regular check-ins with the teacher, a team approach to supporting pupils, and a culture where progress is tracked and intervention time links directly to classroom learning.
