Job Description

Teaching Assistant

Do you want a long-term primary role where you support pupils in KS1 or KS2, and build the sort of experience schools value for teacher training?

*** Teaching Assistant
*** Easter or September start until July 2027
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** School based in Holbrooks, Coventry
*** 1:1 and small group support across either KS1 or KS2

The Role:
You will support pupils in KS1 or KS2 through a mix of in-class support and targeted 1:1 or small group sessions. You will help pupils who need extra structure to keep up with class learning, stay focused, and complete work with growing independence. In class, you will reinforce instructions, model first steps, and guide pupils through tasks using simple scaffolds such as chunked steps, guided practice, visual prompts, and quick check-ins. You will support calm routines, transitions, and behaviour expectations so learning stays purposeful.

Outside the main lesson, you will run short, structured support sessions linked to what pupils are learning that week. In KS1, this often means early reading, phonics application, sentence building, and basic number fluency. In KS2, this often means reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing accuracy and structure, plus maths fluency and reasoning. You will keep brief notes on what pupils managed and what needs repeating, then feed back to the teacher so targets stay clear and groups change when pupils secure the skill. KS1 and KS2 learning follows national curriculum expectations, so your support will connect to core English and maths objectives.

The Candidate:
You bring patience, clarity, and consistency. You want school-based experience, and you take feedback well so your practice improves across the year.

  • Degree at 2:2 or above in any subject
  • Confident supporting primary learning in class and in small groups
  • Comfortable delivering 1:1 and small group support with clear routines
  • Experience with children through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, camps, or volunteering is desirable
  • Professional approach to safeguarding, confidentiality, and behaviour expectations in line with statutory guidance
  • Enhanced DBS required, plus right to work checks, references, and standard school vetting

The School:
You will work in Holbrooks, a residential area in the north of Coventry. Staff rely on consistent routines and clear communication, so support roles stay focused and pupils get the same expectations across the day. You will get direction on priority pupils, session goals, and who to report to, so you are not guessing what to do each morning.

Apply Now:
Send your CV to be considered. If shortlisted, you will get a call to confirm your start date, your experience with children, and whether you feel stronger in KS1 or KS2. Checks follow, then the school stage is arranged to match the start window.

Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
