What does a Audiologist do?
Audiologists assess, diagnose and treat patients (children or adults) with audiological and vestibular disorders caused by infectious, genetic, traumatic or degenerative conditions, such as hearing loss, tinnitus, dizziness, imbalance, hyperacusis and auditory processing difficulties. They can prescribe a hearing aid and have a role in assessing and managing patients who may benefit from cochlear implants.
Tasks required include:
- Conducts medical education relevant to specialism and provides team leadership and supervision.
- Conducts specialised diagnostic tests for a variety of health conditions and advise on treatment.
- Diagnoses and treats patients with a variety of hearing-related problems.

- Provides high level support within surgical teams before, during and after surgery.
- Provides prosthetic devices to patients and advises on rehabilitation.
