Jobseekers prefer to start their search now, poll reveals

Posted around 3 months ago •

A recent poll revealed jobseekers aren’t waiting for January, with most making career moves before the year even ends.

Out of 238 respondents, an overwhelming 84% said they were already actively looking for new opportunities, while only 9% were waiting for the “new year, new me” motivation to kick-start their search. A further 8% remained undecided.

The poll coincided with a new report from Meriden Media, which examines the most popular roles currently being sought by candidates.

The report identifies key trends across sectors and highlights where demand and talent intersect in today’s competitive market, offering employers valuable insights into the roles attracting the most interest, such as administrators, drivers, receptionists and warehouse operatives.

Commenting on the findings, Helen Hibbert, Director of Permanent Recruitment at Pertemps Network Group, said: “These results show that today’s job market is highly dynamic, and people are motivated to take control of their careers whenever the opportunity arises. Employers should be aware that talent is actively looking now, not just in the new year.”

The poll highlights a shift in jobseeker behaviour, emphasising the importance of recruiters and hiring managers to stay connected, understand trends and respond to candidates evolving priorities.
