JOB DESCRIPTION

A Warehouse Driver is responsible for operating vehicles within a warehouse or distribution centre setting, facilitating the movement of goods and materials. This role involves driving forklifts, reach trucks, or other specialized equipment, as well as participating in warehouse activities such as loading, unloading, and inventory management.

QUALIFICATIONS

There are no formal academic entry requirements. Entrants must possess a clean car driving licence. In order to drive vehicles between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes, entrants must pass an additional test for a category C1 licence. Minimum age restrictions apply according to the weight of vehicle and whether the driver holds a Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence). NVQs/SVQs in relevant areas and at various levels are available.

TASKS

  • Drive forklifts or other material handling equipment to move and transport goods within the warehouse..
  • Follow safety guidelines for the operation of warehouse vehicles..
  • Load and unload goods from delivery trucks or storage areas..
  • Ensure accurate and secure placement of materials..
  • Pick and pack orders based on inventory lists or customer requests..
  • Use warehouse management systems to locate and retrieve items..
  • Assist in receiving, inspecting, and storing incoming materials or products..
  • Update inventory records and maintain stock accuracy..
  • Conduct routine checks on warehouse vehicles to ensure proper functioning..
  • Report any mechanical issues to supervisors for timely repairs..
  • Communicate with warehouse staff and supervisors to coordinate vehicle movements and tasks..
  • Relay information regarding stock levels and potential issues..
  • Maintain accurate records of goods movement, inventory transactions, and vehicle maintenance..
  • Complete required paperwork and reports as needed..
  • Adhere to safety guidelines for both warehouse activities and vehicle operation..
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required..
  • Contribute to the organization and cleanliness of the warehouse..
  • Optimize storage space and follow proper inventory labelling..
  • Stay updated on industry regulations, warehouse safety protocols, and best practices..
  • Participate in training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge..
